About West Midlands Football

The West Midlands and the Black Country are heartlands of English football. Birmingham is home to Aston Villa (1874) and Birmingham City (1875), while Wolverhampton Wanderers (1877) and West Bromwich Albion (1878) hail from the Black Country. Below the professional level, the Midland Football League, West Midlands (Regional) League and Staffordshire leagues provide a strong non-league pyramid. Many clubs were founded by factory workers and churchgoers in the industrial heyday of the region.
