About Forwards in Non-League Football
Forwards are the goalscorers — the players whose names appear most often on the scoresheet. In non-league football, a prolific striker can carry a club through an entire season. From target men who hold the ball up and bring others into play, to pacy wingers who terrorise full-backs, attacking players provide the cutting edge that wins matches and championships.
Forwards — Common Questions
Forwards include strikers (ST), centre-forwards (CF), wingers (LW, RW) and general forward players (FWD). All are primarily responsible for creating and scoring goals.

It varies by formation. A 4-4-2 uses two strikers, a 4-3-3 uses three forwards (one striker and two wingers), while a 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 may use just one or two forwards.
